Hey…I’m so thrilled you are starting this journey with me! Over the past too-many-years-to-mention, I’ve indulged my love of history through travel and photography in nearly 50 countries. And when I wasn’t traveling, I was reading historic novels that informed my explorations and delighted my sense of escape. (Just take me somewhere before the 20th century and I am happy!) But to really understand what I was seeing, I also read history books and biographies so I grasped the context of how this historic locale came to be. I enabled me to develop the empathy and admiration for the people who lived it. And maybe imagine what it was like to be there!
So going forward, you’ll experience everything from major cities to villages to off-the-beaten path by-ways, from unique buildings to soaring monuments to quirky corners, from pre-history to just before World War 1, from North America to Europe to Asia to Africa to Down Under and more…

My personal preference for pre-visitation and onsite travel guides are the Insight Guides for a number of reasons, but primarily because the history sections of these guides are the most comprehensive and compelling reading. They provide a thorough context for what you are seeing, along with cultural history. I also find the quantity and quality of photography superb. For that reason, we have created a robust directory of these guides by country, and you can drill down by city or by theme (The Silk Road, for instance.) You will find more than xx of volumes.
